Beckham to miss World Cup

David Beckham is set to miss this years World Cup in South Africa after rupturing his Achilles tendon playing for AC Milan yesterday.

While this injury will obviously leave him heartbroken and deny him the opportunity to become the first English player to appear at 4 World Cup Finals, it could be a blessing in disguise for the manger, Fabio Cappelo.

We all know that Beckham is past his best, and that there are better players for position, but will Cappelo be breathing a sigh of relief at having the decision to drop Beckham made for him?

Gutted for him tbh, would rather see him infront of lennon. lennon, swp, walcott all do the same job, there is only 1 becks. yes he cant start but he is a late sub to get balls in the box, and he is inspiration to the younger lot.

I think he should still go along with the lads, for inspiration if nothing else, but as a squad player it is a bit of a wasted spot imo.

Think Capello will be dissapointed to lose an experienced squad player but its not the end of the world. More important players England cant afford to get injured.

If I was Capello I'd definately be doing the Euromillions this fri. This news plus Owen getting crocked (again!) has saved him having to justify leaving them out of the squad. I reckon he's doing a little jig inside. lol

I don't think Capello would want him to go to South Africa as a talisman. The media circus he attracts wherever he sets foot will be distracting.

Its not looking good for England now, is it?
With Aaron Lennon, Michael Owen, and now Becks all injured, it makes you wonder who'll be next and whether it'll be the left or right metatarsal!

In all seriousness, I think its a shame for England as Becks is a massively influential player and he can create chances from nothing. I fear that he may never play for England again now though. He's certainly at the top end of the age scale for international players, and an injury like this is going to take a while to fully recover from.

As an Arsenal fan I never thought I'd say this, but if Rooney gets injured I'll probebly cry.

Yeah, I think England will be majorly fucked if Rooney gets crocked. He's in blinding form at the moment, and luckily he's not a player that's prone to injury so hopefully we'll be OK.
