Blackberry ban

Saudi Arabia is due to implement a ban on certain functions of the popular Blackberry handsets.

Apparently when messages are sent via Blackberry Messenger they are sent via an offshore service and as such cannot be monitored by the countries authorities.

It's interesting that in these days of terrorism and counter-terrorism that RIM are refusing to back down on this and make the information available, as surely people will start to use these devices even more now that they know that they can do so without fear of being monitored in any way.

I don't understand the Arab nations. They seem scared of something, paranoid even.

Up to them if they ban the Blackberry I guess.

India have also demanded access to everything from RIM, and have set a deadline of 31st August to provide the government access to all of its services or face being shut down.

I think it's a good move personally, especially in these sorts of countries which are basically a hotbed of terrorism. Yes there are privacy concerns, but national security should always come first imo.

India is another massive market for Blackberry...

Be interesting to see what comes out of it.
