This guide is to introduce you to the many forum features, how to use them and also how to disable some that aren't needed.

Changing your Profile

Hover over the Preferences tab at the top of the forum and you'll see options to Change Avatar, Change Signature and Update Profile.

You have 3 options here
  • Use one of the preset Avatars
  • Upload your own (maximum file size is quite small though)
  • Link to an online Avatar stored elsewhere
Don't worry about the size of the image as if it's too large the forum will resize it automatically for you.

[link=1, signature]Signature[/link]

We do allow images in signatures here, but they must adhere to the Terms of Service so no nude pictures please! To add an image you need to use the following code -

or if you want the image centred you would use this instead -

Again, don't worry about the image being to large as the forum will resize it as necessary.

From here there are a number of settings you can edit, including adding links to your Twitter, Facebook and Blog. Follow these formats to add them correctly -

Facebook - Add everything after http://facebook.com/ from your profile url. The facebook.com/ is added automatically.

Twitter - Add your username only, for example http://twitter.com/your_name you would only add your_name to the field.

Blog - Here you can add a link to your personal blog, just add whatever comes after http:// and the link will automatically be parsed.

Default Post Colour - adding a colour name of a hex code here will make all of your posts appear in your chosen colour.

Here you will find a few options that you can change such as displaying avatars, signatures or images (useful for slow connections or mobile browsing).

Topic Viewing Preference - two choices here, either go to the first unread post in a topic or always go to the first post in a topic. Your choice.

The rest here is pretty self explanatory.

Probably the most advanced feature this forum has to offer is a control panel to turn various codes on or off.
The options are as follows -
  • Hows My Post - The bar underneath where you type that increases as you type more words. Click the word Enabled and it will change to Disabled thus switching the code off for you.
  • Default Posting Colour - If you find it hard to read some posts due to the colour they use you can disable it here.
  • All In One System - This controls the Karma/Reputation system but has to collate data from a different server, so if you find that it lags the forum or if you have issues with logging in or staying logged in disable it here.
  • Image Resizer and Viewer - This code resizes large images but allows them to still be clicked and viewed at the original dimensions. Disabling this code will remove the Click to View Full Size option however the images will still be resized to prevent the page being stretched.
  • Multi Quote - There is a small checkbox next to the quote button in posts, select the posts that you want and click Add Reply to have them all ready quote.

To post an image just wrap the url of the image inside img tags like so -

We also have a Multiquote feature.To use it just click on the "+ to add a quote, or on the "- to remove an already quoted post. When you have selected all that you want just click Add Reply and the posting box will be populated with your selected quotes.

Youtube videos can posted easily by using the following code -

Vimeo videos can also be posted but it is a little more complicated.

Click on embed, make sure you choose the option for the Old Embed Code which will throw up something similar to this -

[link=1, pm]Private Messaging[/link]

To send a Private Message to a particular person click the button underneath their mini-profile which says ON:PM, or OFF:PM if they are offline at the time. On a few themes this image may just say Online or Offline but if it is clickable then you may send a message from there.

Alternatively, click a members name to be taken to their main profile page, where you will see a further option to send a PM approximately half way down the page.

If you experience any issues with the forum, or any issues with any of the members then you can either use the Report function to bring it to the Staffs attention, or you can submit a Support Ticket from the Preferences dropdown menu.

The second option guarantees that I will see it even if I'm not online as it gets emailed directly to me.
