Segunda B side Mirandés caused one of the biggest shocks in Copa del Rey history when they beat Primera división Espanyol to progress to the semi-finals on away goals after a last-gasp 2-1 victory over the Catalans.

Behind 3-2 from the first leg, the Burgos team fell further behind when Rui Fonte put Espanyol ahead two minutes after the break. However, Pablo Infante equalised for Carlos Pouso’s men 10 minutes later before César Caneda sparked ecstatic scenes at the 6,000-capacity Estadio Anduva with a headed goal in stoppage time.

The third-tier team will now face the winners of Athletic Bilbao and Real Mallorca for a place in the final, leaving an emotional Pouso to explain his joy at such a feat.

“This is what life is, that the poor are sometimes happier than the rich,” he declared. “Without the support of the players, the board and the fans I would be nothing. I am happy because I am in the right place at the right time. This is something to tell the grandchildren. We have a date with history.”

From what I understand, they play in the equivilent of League 1/2 in the UK. Oh yeah, and they beat 3 Primera División teams on the way to the semi's, and are full of part timers, and given the 3 other teams left in the cup are likely to be in the champions league, will be playing in UEFA next season.

That's rather impressive even if they don't get through to the finals, it's one to tell the grandkids about!

Yeah, Miranda did good. Just think how good she'd be if she got 10 other team mates!
